McDougall Park Community Kindergarten recently showcased their play based kindergarten at a successful open day. The day was well attended by future and current kindy students who were treated to numerous activities as well as plenty of free play within inspiring, natural surrounds. Sue Doherty, Major of South Perth and John McGrath MLA, member for South Perth also visited and joined in the fun.
“South Perth are very privileged to have such a fantastic facility with exceptional staff operating within our local area.” said John McGrath MLA.
Science is a daily feature of the kindergarten day and a highlight of the morning was the ‘magic trick’ (science experiment) conducted by Fang Law, teacher at McDougall Park. All of the children were mesmerised, Sue Doherty and John McGrath couldn’t resist having a turn too.
After interacting with parents and children, Sue Doherty noted that “Valuing the importance of play in the early years of a child’s life – that’s what this kindergarten is all about.”
“Children and adults alike had a smile on their face the whole morning, the community feel and genuine enjoyment of being part of McDougall Park is inspiring.” said Kate Moore, President of the Parent Management Committee.
As a community kindergarten, McDougall Park operates within the public system from a purpose built facility owned by the City of South Perth, with large, natural grounds. Teaching staff are supplied by the Department of Education and all non-teaching aspects are run by a Parent Management Committee. A play based learning program is offered.
Enrolments are currently open for 2016 for children who turn 4 by June 30, 2016. Applications are required by July 24. For more information visit the website at http://www.mcdougall-kindy.com.au/ or call the kindergarten on 9450 3909 to organise a visit.
